How to find and set your Telegram username

A Telegram username is a unique name that starts with @, for example @durov. You can see yours in Settings under your name. If you do not have one, set it in Settings, Edit profile, Username: 5 to 32 Latin letters, numbers or underscores. Premium and Stars are sent to exactly this username.

Updated:

Where can I see my username?

  1. Open Settings in Telegram.
  2. If there is a name starting with @ under your name, that is your username.
  3. Tap it to copy it.

How do I set a username if I have none?

  1. In Settings, tap Edit or Edit profile.
  2. Open the Username field.
  3. Type 5 to 32 Latin letters, numbers or underscores.
  4. Telegram checks that the name is free. When you see a green tick, save it.

How do I find a friend's username?

Tap your friend's name in a chat to open their profile, where the username is shown with an @. If you cannot see one, they do not have a username yet, so ask them to set one. After that you can gift them Premium or send them Stars.

Why do I need a username to buy?

Premium and Stars are sent through Telegram's gift feature, and gifts are sent by username. That is why no password, code or phone number is needed, only the right username.

Questions

Is a username the same as a phone number?

No. A username lets people find you without seeing your phone number. To buy, you need the username, not the number.

If I change my username, will I lose Premium?

No. Premium is tied to the account, not the username. The username only has to be right at the moment you order.

It says the username is taken. What now?

Try another one: add numbers or an underscore at the end, for example name_uz.
